BERLIN: Unbeaten Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are facing three finals in one week in their bid for a treble, coach Xabi Alonso said on Friday.
Leverkusen are on a season-long unbeaten run of 50 games, already breaking a 59-year-old UEFA record.
Leverkusen can become the first 鈥榠nvincible鈥 team in Bundesliga history by avoiding defeat at home against Augsburg on Saturday.
Alonso鈥檚 men face Atalanta in the Europa League final in Dublin on Wednesday, followed by the German Cup final against second-division Kaiserslautern three days later.
鈥淭omorrow is our first final,鈥 Alonso said. 鈥淲e can achieve something historic.
鈥淭o stay unbeaten in the Bundesliga 鈥 we鈥檒l be the first team and we鈥檒l be a part of history.鈥
Leverkusen will be presented with the Bundesliga trophy for the first time in their history after Saturday鈥檚 match.
Long derided as 鈥淣everkusen鈥 for often finishing second and never winning a top-flight crown, Leverkusen are close to a remarkable treble.
鈥(We are) not thinking about Wednesday (Europa League final) 鈥 we鈥檙e thinking about tomorrow and about Augsburg,鈥 Alonso insisted.
The Spaniard, who is in his first full season as a head coach, said his players 鈥渄on鈥檛 have time鈥 to celebrate 鈥渢oo much鈥 on Saturday.
鈥淲e can celebrate with our fans, but from Monday we need to be fully focused on our final week.
鈥淭hey鈥檙e professional and I don鈥檛 need to tell them. We need to be intelligent.鈥
Alonso said star midfielder Florian Wirtz, who has not started in the league for five games, had overcome a leg injury and 鈥渃an start鈥 against Augsburg.
鈥淭here are no limitations for tomorrow. He feels much better and doesn鈥檛 have any pain.鈥
